Policy

The Financial Services Institute (FSI) is an independent, non-profit organization. FSI wants to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy as an FSI member by disclosing our information practices in connection with the collection and use of personally identifiable information and other personal data (Personal Data). As an FSI member (You or Yours) or user of our website, FSI is disclosing to You the following:

  • Collection of Personal Data: The Personal Data we collect from You when You access FSI’s website at http://financialservices.org/ (Website) or become a member;
  • Use of Personal Data: The ways Your Personal Data is used by FSI;
  • Sharing of Personal Data: With whom the Personal Data may be shared by FSI;
  • Security: The security procedures used by FSI to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of Personal Data under FSI control;
  • Notification of Changes: The means FSI will use to inform You of changes in this privacy policy;
  • Opting-Out of Personal Data Collection and Use: The choices available to You regarding collection, use and distribution of the Personal Data;
  • Correcting/Updating Personal Data: Instructions for correcting any errors in Your Personal Data; and
  • Concerns with FSI Compliance with this Privacy Policy: Instructions for informing FSI of any suspected violations of this privacy policy.

FSI does not disclose any Personal Data about our members to third-parties except as described in this privacy policy or as otherwise required by law.

Personal Data Collection, Use and Sharing

General
FSI is the sole owner of the Personal Data collected as described. FSI will not sell, share, or rent this Personal Data to others except as described herein. Any third-parties with whom Personal Data is shared for business purposes (e.g., Website hosting company, database administration firm, mail houses, etc.) are prohibited from releasing the Personal Data to anyone else or from using it for purposes other than those outlined herein.

Membership Application
In order to be a member of FSI, You must complete an application form or otherwise provide required information to FSI. During membership application or renewal, FSI requests Your business contact information such as name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. FSI collects Your business contact information for two reasons: (1) It is generally the preferred contact address by members receiving membership information from FSI, both electronic and regular mail; and (2) FSI uses it for membership surveys to serve You better in the future.

FSI’s Advocacy Efforts
FSI may also collect non-business contact information. FSI does so primarily to determine Your Congressional District, the identity of Your elected officials, or similar information relevant to our advocacy objectives.

FSI may share aggregated demographic information about our membership with legislators, regulators, the media and the public. Such information contains no Personal Data about any individual members.

The Website
FSI collects Personal Data from our members and visitors to the Website. Among the types of Personal Data that the Website collects by itself or through third-party tools are Cookies, usage data, first name, last name and address. Other Personal Data collected may be described in other sections of this privacy policy or by dedicated explanation text contextually with the Personal Data collection. The Personal Data may be freely provided by You, or collected automatically when using the Website. The Personal Data concerning You is collected to allow FSI to provide its services, as well as for the following purposes: (a) Obtaining access to third-party services’ accounts; (b) Advertising; (c) SPAM protection; (d) Contacting the User; (e) Infrastructure monitoring; (f) Analytics; (g) Displaying content from external platforms; and (h) Handling payments. Unless stated otherwise, any use of Cookies, or of other tracking tools, by the Website or by the owners of third-party services used by the Website serves to identify You and remember Your preferences for the sole purpose of providing the service required by You. Failure to provide certain Personal Data may make it impossible for the Website to provide its services effectively and efficiently. You are responsible for any Personal Data of third-parties obtained, published or shared through the Website and confirm that You have the third-party’s consent to provide the Personal Data to FSI.

This Website may ask for some Facebook permissions allowing it to perform actions with Your Facebook account and to retrieve information, including Personal Data, from it. The permissions asked are for “Basic Information” and “About Me” information. By default, this includes certain of Your Personal Data such as ID, name, picture, gender, and locale. Certain connections of Yours, such as Friends, are also available. If You have made more of Your Personal Data public, more information will be available. In addition to the information described in this privacy policy, the Website may provide FSI with additional and contextual information concerning particular services or the collection and processing of Personal Data upon request.

For operation and maintenance purposes, the Website and any third-party services may collect files that record interaction with the Website (e.g., system logs) or use for this purpose other Personal Data (e.g., IP Address).

Your Personal Data may be used for legal purposes by FSI, in Court or in the stages leading to possible legal action arising from improper use of the Website or the related services. You hereby acknowledge You are aware that FSI may be required to reveal personal data upon request of public authorities.

FSI processes the Personal Data in a proper manner and shall take appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Personal Data. The Personal Data processing is carried out using computers and/or IT enabled tools, following organizational procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes indicated. In addition to FSI, in some cases, the Personal Data may be accessible to certain types of persons involved with the operation of the Website or providing the requested services (e.g., web master, finance, operations, sales, marketing, legal and/or system administration) or parties (e.g., third-party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies and/or communications agencies) chosen by FSI. A list of these third-parties may be requested from FSI at any time.

The Personal Data is processed at FSI’s operating offices and in any other places where the third-parties involved with the processing are located. The Personal Data is kept for the time necessary to provide the service requested by You, or stated by the purposes outlined in this document, and You can always request that FSI suspend or delete the data.

The Website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that FSI is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. FSI wants You to be aware that when You leave the Website this privacy policy no longer applies. We encourage You to read the privacy statements of every other website that collects Personal Data. This privacy statement applies solely to Personal Data collected by the Website.

FSI Electronic Mail
As part of its membership benefits and services, FSI may electronically mail news of professional interest to You, including information on FSI’s advocacy efforts, meetings, events, products, and services. FSI may utilize third-party vendors to prepare, process, and distribute these communications, but such vendors are prohibited from using or selling Personal Data.

Social Media
FSI may utilize social media websites (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter) to update You and other interested parties about its advocacy efforts, events and other news. Your voluntary participation in these social media efforts is subject to the then current Terms of Service of the relevant social media website.

Participants in FSI social media should be aware of the following:

  • FSI social media activities are intended to encourage topical discussion of issues and events relevant to members and supporters of FSI;
  • FSI will regularly monitor content posted to its social media websites and reserves the right to delete material deemed untimely, offensive or inappropriate; and
  • Commercial appeals, efforts to engage in self-promotion, or marketing of non-FSI events will be considered inappropriate material subject to deletion.

Surveys, Conference Attendance and Product Orders
FSI may request Personal Data from You on our order form when You choose to attend an FSI conference, event or to purchase a product or service from us. Attendees must provide contact information (such as name and shipping address) and financial information (credit card number, expiration date). This information is used to fill Your order and for billing purposes. If FSI has trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with You.

FSI never sells member lists to any outside vendors or firms. FSI may share meeting attendee lists (containing mail addresses, email addresses and/or phone numbers) with sponsors of those meetings. FSI may also distribute its sponsors’ and other vendors’ educational and marketing materials to its members.

FSI may also post surveys on its Website, forward them to You via e-mail or contact You via telephone. FSI may use a third-party (e.g., SurveyMonkey) to perform these surveys. Personal Data is not distributed to third-parties but the information they collect is used for purposes of monitoring and/or improving the FSI Website, other member services, or to further FSI’s advocacy agenda. Third-parties assisting with such surveys may utilize the aggregate data in reports to FSI, in their own publications, or for other purposes. However, individual responses from You will not be released to anyone else or used for purposes other than those outlined herein. Third-parties may also collect Personal Data from You. FSI wants You to be aware that when You leave the Website this privacy policy no longer applies. We encourage You to read the privacy statements of every other website that collects Personal Data including these third-parties. This privacy statement applies solely to Personal Data collected by the Website.

Other Specific Services

FSI may use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. FSI prohibits these companies in its contractual agreements from retaining, sharing, storing or using Personal Data for any secondary purposes.

FSI may use an outside company to compare membership information with public databases, membership information of other trade associations and other sources for the purposes of ensuring the accuracy of the data and supplementing it with other relevant information (e.g., professional designations earned by members).  These parties are not allowed to use Personal Data except for the purpose of providing these services.

FSI may partner with another party to provide specific services. When You sign up for these services, FSI will share names or other contact information that is necessary for the third-party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use Personal Data except for the purpose of providing these services.

FSI has contracted with Feathr, Inc. to obtain technology and digital tools to provide our event managers with certain marketing analytics and campaign management services to facilitate sales, marketing, and analytics related to conferences, seminars, or other events.  By visiting the Website, Feathr may place cookies on Your browser for these purposes.   You may opt-out from receiving targeted advertisements from Feathr by visiting one or more of the following opt-out pages:

FSI may partner with other parties to provide specific services. When You sign up for these services, FSI will share names or other contact information that is necessary for the third-party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use Personal Data except for the purpose of providing these services.

Security

This website takes every reasonable precaution to protect Your Personal Data. When You submit Personal Data via the website, Your Personal Data is protected both online and off-line to the best of FSI’s ability.

When our registration/order form asks You to enter Personal Data or other sensitive information (e.g., credit card number and/or social security number), the Personal Data and other information is encrypted and protected using one of the leading encryption software solutions – Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, to indicate You are on a secure page.

While FSI uses SSL encryption to protect Personal Data online, FSI also uses reasonable efforts to protect Your Personal Data off-line. All of Your Personal Data collected by us is restricted in our offices or other work locations.

Notification of Changes

If FSI decides to change our privacy policy, FSI will post those changes on the Website so that You and other users are always aware of what Personal Data we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point FSI decides to use Personal Data in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, FSI will notify You. You will have a choice as to whether or not FSI uses Your Personal Data in this different manner. Until such notice is provided, FSI will use Personal Data in accordance with the privacy policy under which the Personal Data was collected.

Opting-Out of Personal Data Collection and Use

If You no longer wish to receive our electronic communications You may opt out of receiving these communications by replying with “unsubscribe” in the subject line in the e-mail or e-mailing us at membership@financialservices.org. Members also have the option to opt-out of receiving mail, fax communications and PAC contribution solicitations. Members can also ask for a summary of their Personal Data in the possession of FSI or that FSI destroy all Personal Data in its possession.  Destruction of that Personal Data may limit FSI’s ability to deliver membership services to You. These changes to the collection, storage, or handling of Your Personal Data can be requested by contacting the Member Services Department at 888-373-1840 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET or by e-mailing our Membership Department at membership@financialservices.org.

Correcting/Updating Personal Data

You can update Your membership records by calling the Membership Department at 888-373-1840 between 8:30am and 4:30pm ET or sending an e-mail to membership@financialservices.org.
