• Councils & Committees

FSI has five advisory councils that provide advice and input to FSI’s staff and Board of Directors. These councils meet in-person and by conference call. The five councils are:

    • Compliance Council
To provide a forum for and to enhance knowledge and comprehension of compliance and supervisory issues. It is composed of up to 12 people, and members are elected by the council to serve three-year staggered terms.
    • Marketing, Growth & Development Council
To provide a forum for discussion about marketing, practice management, recruiting, sponsor relations, advertising and related issues. Composed of up to six people, members are elected by the council to serve three-year staggered terms.
    • Investment Advisory Services Council
To provide a forum for discussion about investment advisory issues. Composed of up to five people, members are elected by the council to serve three-year staggered terms.
    • Operations Council
To provide a forum for members to monitor, assess and profile operations issues. Composed of up to 12 people, members are elected by the council to serve three-year staggered terms.
    • Financial Advisor Council
To advise FSI’s staff and board on the impact of proposed legislative and regulatory changes on independent financial advisors, on emerging issues that are important to independent financial advisors, and on ways FSI can enhance the value of membership. Composed of up to 12 people, members are appointed by FSI’s Chair.

Annually, the councils elect a Vice Chair to develop the agendas for the Discussion meetings and to moderate those sessions. Upon the election of a new Vice Chair, the previous Vice Chair becomes Chair of the council and is responsible for developing the agenda and facilitating the Council meetings. In addition, the Chair of each council serves for one year as a full voting member of FSI’s Board of Directors.

FSI also has two task force committees. Volunteers are recruited annually and meet by conference call.

    • Broker-Dealer Study Task Force
To provide input and feedback to FSI and our Study provider, FA Insight, to ensure that the annual FSI Broker-Dealer Study best meets the needs of FSI members.
    • FSI Broker-Dealer Conference Task Force
To collaborate with FSI staff in designing and executing our annual conference, OneVoice. The Task Force help brainstorm the vision and theme for the meeting, keynote speakers, topics for education sessions, and potential speakers for those topics.

The Task Force consists of a Task Force Chair and track coordinators for each of the five tracks: CEO, Compliance, Investment Advisory Services, Marketing, and Operations as well as one representative from each of FSI’s Premier sponsor firms.
