The Financial Services Institute ("FSI" or "we") is an independent, non-profit organization. We want to demonstrate FSI's commitment to your privacy as a FSI member by disclosing our information practices in connection with the collection and use of personally identifiable information. As a FSI member ("you"), we are disclosing to you in this document:
what personally identifiable information of yours is collected from you when becoming a FSI member and by accessing FSI's Web site at
www.financialservices.org;
how the information is used;
with whom the information may be shared;
what choices are available to you regarding collection, use and distribution of the information;
the kind of security procedures that are in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of information under FSI control; and
how you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.
FSI does not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our members to third parties except as described in this document or as otherwise required by law. If you feel that FSI is not abiding by its posted privacy policy, you should first contact our membership department at 888 373-1840 between 8:30am and 5:30pm ET, or e-mail membership@financialservices.org.
Information Collection and Use
FSI is the sole owner of the information collected on www.financialservices.org (the "Web site") and from membership applications. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others. FSI also collects information from our users at several different points on our Web site and through other means, such as meeting registration forms.
Member Information
In order to be a member of FSI, you must complete an application form. During membership application or renewal, we request your business contact information (such as name, address, telephone number and e-mail address).
FSI collects your business contact information for two reasons: 1) it is generally the preferred contact address by members receiving membership information from FSI, both electronic and regular mail; and 2) we use it for membership surveys to better serve you in the future.
Any third parties with whom contact information is shared for business purposes (Web site hosting company, database administration firm, mail houses, etc.) are prohibited from releasing the information to anyone else or from using it for purposes other than those outlined above.
FSI Electronic Mail
As part of its membership benefits and services, FSI may electronically mail news of professional interest to you, including information on FSI’s advocacy efforts, meetings, events, products, and services. If you do not wish to receive any e-mails from us, you may opt out by contacting the Member Services Department at 888 373-1840 between 8:30am and 5:30pm ET or by e-mailing our Membership Department at membership@financialservices.org.
FSI Web Site Surveys, Conference and Product Orders
We request information from the user on our order form when planning to attend a FSI conference, event, or to purchase a product or service from us. Attendees must provide contact information (such as name and shipping address) and financial information (credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill customer's orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with the user.
FSI may also post surveys on its Web site or forward them to members via e-mail. We may use a third party to perform these surveys. These surveys collect information from the respondent. Such information is not distributed to third parties but is used for purposes of monitoring and/or improving the FSI Web site or other member services. Third parties assisting with such surveys are prohibited from releasing the information to anyone else or from using it for purposes other than those outlined above.
Cookies
A "cookie" is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Some cookies track sites visited by the Internet user and your browser for marketing purposes. FSI's Web site does not employ this kind of cookie. The cookies in our Web site are used:
- For 'time stamping,' so that we can determine how often our Web content is visited for monthly reporting statistics;
- To ease member usage, so that the FSI member does not have to log in again within six months after their initial visit to the members-only section; and
- To permit future improvements to our site, such as personalizing greetings and other services provided to members.
- To access the members-only section of our Web site, the member's browser MUST be set to accept cookies.
Log Files
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer our Web site, track user's movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Information Sharing
We never sell member lists to any outside vendors or firms. We may share meeting attendee lists (containing mail addresses but not e-mail addresses or phone numbers) with sponsors of those meetings.
We may share aggregated demographic information about our membership with legislators, regulators, the media, and the public. Such information contains no personally identifiable contact information about any individual members.
We may use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. FSI prohibits these companies in its contractual agreements from retaining, sharing, storing or using personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
We may partner with another party to provide specific services. When the user signs up for these services, we will share names, or other contact information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.
Links
FSI's Web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by FSI's Web site.
Security
This Web site takes every reasonable precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit sensitive information via the Web site, your information is protected both online and off-line to the best of FSI's ability.
When our registration/order form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected with one of the leading encryption software in the industry - Secure Sockets Layer ("SSL"). While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just surfing.
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also use reasonable efforts to protect member information off-line. All of our members' information collected by us, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices.
If you have any questions about the security at our Web site, you can send an email to membership@financialservices.org.
Correction/Updating Personal Information
FSI members can update their membership records by calling the Membership Department at 888 373-1840 between 8:30am and 4:30pm ET.
Choice/Opt-out
Users who no longer wish to receive our electronic communications may opt out of receiving these communications by replying with “unsubscribe” in the subject line in the email or emailing us at membership@financialservices.org. Members also have the option to opt-out of receiving mail and fax communications and PAC contribution solicitations. This can be done by contacting the Member Services Department at 888 373-1840 between 8:30am and 5:30pm ET or by e-mailing our Membership Department at membership@financialservices.org.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our Web site so that our members and other users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify members. Members will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
